Your product can be the source of all your worries and cause many sleepless nights. It can even make you forget your core business responsibilities. Product management is a broad subject, which I have been involved in lately during an internship in the UK while working for a performance marketing company.
Managing a product involves constantly trying to transform it into the best, sexiest and most desirable on the market. Sometimes, we are so preoccupied with the task of perfecting our product that we end up forgetting the basics! Below, I cover 7 helpful tips that can prevent you from losing sight of the essentials in managing your product.
My father is a chartered accountant and I can still recall him telling me this: “Never work for others! Build your own business and make others work for you.” I didn’t totally agree with him because I believe that the world cannot possibly survive if everyone is a leader who creates his own business. Furthermore, working in a company can teach us how to function in collaboration with others. We become stronger when we share our experiences and learn from each other. We broaden the entire length and breadth of human experience.
Today is the second anniversary of Steve Job’s death. I’ve always admired this person and his incredible personality.
I remember 2 years ago, when I woke to the news that Steve Jobs has died. It was all around the news and #iSad was anything but a sick joke. I was desperate to know that I’ll never get the chance to meet him in person and that we have lost an incredible icon. It’s like keeping listening to records of an old music band and never get the occasion to see them live (I’m making a reference to The Beatles, Dire Straits or Nirvana).
I thought immediately then of his speech to the graduates of Stanford University in 2005. This talk is definitely for me my moto, full of wisdom that I’ve turned to many times to remind myself to keep perspective and to “stay hungry, stay foolish !”.
